OCD Treatment
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is one of the most misunderstood mental health conditions — and one of the most treatable. If intrusive thoughts, compulsive rituals, or relentless mental loops are consuming hours of your day and making it hard to function, you are not alone. Advanced Practice Mental Health Associates in Oklahoma City provides compassionate, evidence-based OCD treatment for adults, including psychiatric medication management and telehealth options across Oklahoma.
OCD is a chronic mental health condition characterized by two core features: obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are unwanted, intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that cause significant anxiety or distress. Compulsions are repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed in an attempt to neutralize that distress — temporarily. The relief compulsions provide is short-lived, which is what keeps the cycle going.
OCD looks different for everyone. Common presentations include fears of contamination, harm, symmetry and order, unwanted taboo thoughts, and fear of making mistakes. Many people with OCD spend years dismissing their symptoms as quirks or anxiety — or feeling too ashamed to seek help. Both are understandable. Both keep people stuck longer than necessary.
Signs you may be living with OCD
Recurring intrusive thoughts you can't control or dismiss
Repetitive behaviors — checking, counting, cleaning, arranging — performed to reduce anxiety
Mental rituals such as repeating phrases, reviewing memories, or seeking reassurance
Significant time spent on obsessions or compulsions — often an hour or more per day
Avoidance of situations that might trigger obsessions
Distress or impairment in work, relationships, or daily functioning
Our approach to OCD treatment
We offer psychiatric medication management for OCD, which is often a critical component of an effective treatment plan. Certain medications — particularly SSRIs — have strong clinical evidence supporting their use in reducing the frequency and intensity of obsessions and compulsions, making other therapeutic work more accessible.
Your provider will conduct a thorough psychiatric evaluation to understand your specific OCD presentation, symptom history, and treatment goals. From there, we'll work collaboratively to find the right medication approach and adjust it over time based on your response.
